What is Pilates?
Pilates was formed by a German man named Joseph Pilates (1883-1967). He was a physical trainer who focused on rehabilitation during World War I while he was an intern in England. He used core strength, breathing, martial arts and other physical practices to create Pilates. He developed equipment in hospitals for rehabilitation that we still use today. Pilates became more popular in the USA in the 1920s with Ballet schools, today it is a global phenomenon used by everyone from athletes to seniors.
